Self-improvement may be different from person to person.  Some people may be concerned with character development while others might be concerned with self-confidence.  A practitioner of martial arts can always find the value in training and its effects on their life.  The reason is simple, martial arts is a journey of self-discovery.  Once you start to realize the potential that we all have within us, you will realize the true purpose of martial arts.

Health & Fitness

Health and fitness is by far the most tangible and easily observed changes you see and feel in martial arts.  By toning your body and burning fat you will not only feel better but you develop coordination and range of motion.  The exercises that we do relieve stress and help you relax.  Stress is a major cause of obesity, disease, and general muscle soreness and physical and mental discomfort.  By relieving stress you will open a door to clearer thinking and making better life choices.

Our bodies are designed for movement. . . period.  No diet alone or quick fix solution will change that.  Even if there was a pill for weight loss that actually worked it still would not solve the problem of flabby weak muscles, weak joints due to lack of stability, stress build up from lack of movement and a host of other physical and mental issues attributed to a sedentary lifestyle.

We will teach you how to develop a healthy maintainable lifestyle.  The choice is yours as to how far you would like to progress.  These lifestyle changes will make you feel better, allow you to have more options, and make you more productive.  Your body will function more efficiently and you will improve your energy levels.  As a natural benefit you will also sleep better and provide your body with the main ingredient to help stave off old age, disease, and illness.

As you get into better shape your body will develop the need for better fuel.  We will help you to develop good eating habits.

Self-Defense 

Self-defense and the employment of various combat methods along with physical conditioning are the vehicles we use in achieving levels of self improvement.  The ability to defend or protect oneself in a difficult and dangerous situation is the cornerstone for much of the success we strive for in life.  This ability is empowering on both physical and physiological levels.  When one feels this empowerment they are choosing not to live in fear.  The feeling of not being controlled by fear allows you to take the risks necessary to improve your existence.  When you are not controlled by fear you understand that you have options, and you have a say in the outcome of any situation you might find yourself in. 

Self-defense is not limited to physical confrontation or even a human antagonist.  Defending yourself can be not letting an unruly boss push you around or to climb a mountain that before had seemed unreachable.  The ability to face life’s challenges and prevail is true empowerment.  When you develop this kind of confidence you have unlocked the door to unlimited potential.

Of course defending yourself from a physical confrontation is important.  The system at Core has been refined over centuries and adapted to fit contemporary times.  We work hard to teach students how to develop options and the conviction needed to survive a physical assault.
